[Letter] 1858 Aug. 16, Alexandria to [John Albert Broadus] / "your bro." [J.M. Broadus]. 1858.

John was trying to keep his romantic relationship with Charlotte Eleanor Sinclair, a student at Albemarle Female Institute, secret. His brother wrote: "My serious advice to you is that you hasten away from Charlottesville, lest the excitement of circumstances expose that which you have so much labored to conceal. You can hear from her daily through Mr. Hart [John Hart, principal of Albemarle Female Institute] and if need be by telegraph." John A. Broadus married Charlotte E. Sinclair, his second wife, Jan. 4, 1859.
